**SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION:**

On June 2, 2020 (85 FR 33527), the NRC published a direct final rule amending its regulations in parts 9 and 35 of title 10 of the *Code of Federal Regulations* to specify when inclusion of an individual's Social Security account number (SSN) is necessary, include instructions for the partial redaction of SSNs, where feasible, and provide a requirement that SSNs not be visible on the outside of any package sent through the mail.

In the direct final rule, the NRC stated that if no significant adverse comments were received, the direct final rule would become effective on August 17, 2020. The NRC received two comments from the public that supported the proposed changes to the regulations. Because no significant adverse comments were received, the direct final rule will become effective as scheduled.

For the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Dated July 17, 2020.

Chief, Regulatory Analysis and Rulemaking Support Branch, Division of Rulemaking, Environmental, and Financial Support, Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards.
