**SUMMARY:**
In accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh (UWO) has completed an inventory of associated funerary objects and has determined that there is a cultural affiliation between the associated funerary objects and Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations in this notice.

**Abstract of Information Available**
In 1930, J.P. Schumacher and others associated with the Neville Public Museum excavated one of the burial mounds located at the site now known as the Shoemaker's Point Mounds and Cemetery (47-DR-0043), Door County, WI. The mounds were known to archaeologists since at least the beginning of the 20th century and were excavated by various individuals, including Schumacher, in many campaigns. Schumacher's 1930 excavation into the mound removed “several bundle burials” and one Ancestor laying in an extended position with a stone pipe in their right hand and iron “trade” knife in their left hand. Additionally, six iron “trade” arrow points were found in the burial. In 1930, the Neville Public Museum accessioned a “limestone pipe, a lithic projectile point, four iron trade points, and an iron trade knife” from Schumacher's excavation. No Ancestral remains are mentioned in these accession records, though are referenced in later records. In 1940, the Neville Public Museum transferred possession of these funerary items and at least two sets of Ancestral remains to the Door County Museum, at which point they were put on display. At an unknown point between 1961-1980, Carol Mason, affiliated with the University of Wisconsin—Fox Valley, acquired the funerary objects, though no records exist to explain exactly which items and if the associated Ancestral remains were also acquired. UWO took possession of the funerary objects when UWO absorbed the previously-named University of Wisconsin—Fox Valley in 2018. They were identified and transferred to UWO main campus in 2022. While the Ancestor who these objects belonged to were once held by the Neville Public Museum and the Door County Museum, their current whereabouts remain unknown. There are five associated funerary objects present. Of those five associated funerary objects, one is missing. The five associated funerary objects are one stone pipe, one lithic projectile point, one iron trade point, one iron trade knife, and one lot of iron trade points (missing).
**Cultural Affiliation**
Based on the information available and the results of consultation, cultural affiliation is clearly identified by the information available about the human remains and associated funerary objects described in this notice.
**Determinations**
UWO has determined that:
• The five objects described in this notice are reasonably believed to have been placed intentionally with or near individual human remains at the time of death or later as part of the death rite or ceremony.

**Requests for Repatriation**
Written requests for repatriation of the associated funerary objects in this notice must be sent to the authorized representative identified in this notice under *ADDRESSES* . Requests for repatriation may be submitted by:
1. Any one or more of the Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations identified in this notice.
2. Any lineal descendant, Indian Tribe, or Native Hawaiian organization not identified in this notice who shows, by a preponderance of the evidence, that the requestor is a lineal descendant or an Indian Tribe or Native Hawaiian organization with cultural affiliation.
Repatriation of the associated funerary objects described in this notice to a requestor may occur on or after January 20, 2026. If competing requests for repatriation are received, UWO must determine the most appropriate requestor prior to repatriation. Requests for joint repatriation of the associated funerary objects are considered a single request and not competing requests. UWO is responsible for sending a copy of this notice to the Indian Tribes and Native Hawaiian organizations identified in this notice and any other consulting parties.
